6/20/2008 -- M. Soccer Soccer Camp Developed Skills for Younger Players The first week of soccer camp at UIS is designed to teach younger players some of the fundamental skill of the sport and this week was no exception.
"This has been a great camp and we've seen a lot of improvement by all the campers here," said Head Coach Joe Eck. "This group of kids is really picking up on what the instructors are showing them and it will make them better players as they take their game to the next level. This is a fun age to teach because they really put everything they have into learning and they realize what they have accomplished." -more- | 6/12/2008 -- Volleyball Volleyball Camp Taught Fundamentals and Fun The summer volleyball camp at UIS this past week provided campers with an opportunity to mix two concepts into one: learning the fundamentals of the sport and learning how to have fun.
"This has been a great group of campers," said Head Volleyball Coach Joe Fisher. "The camp staff and myself have seen some major improvements with everyone on the basics of the game - digging, setting and hitting. At the same time, we emphasized the importance of having fun with the sport. The more fun you have playing, the longer the sport will stay with you and I hope that is something the campers take with them." -more- | 6/4/2008 -- Athletics News Golf Outing Weathers Early Storm Despite the storms that Mother Nature threw at the Springfield area early on Tuesday morning, the annual UIS Golf Outing was able to complete 18 holes of golf and get through dinner before storms reformed. The golf outing sported 30 foursomes who braved the elements at Piper Glen Golf Club and enjoyed an afternoon of fun and challenges.
At the dinner, Athletic Director Rodger Jehlicka and Head Men's Basketball Coach Kevin Gamble presented Rick and Dona McGraw and their family with a framed "McGraw" UIS basketball jersey for his unending support of the athletic programs throughout the years. -more- | 6/2/2008 -- Athletics News Fitzgerald Named Assistant Director for Compliance SPRINGFIELD, IL - In another step closer to moving into Division II of the NCCA, the University of Illinois at Springfield has announced the hiring of Alison Fitzgerald as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services.
