11/19/2008 -- W. Basketball Baymont Inn Classic Schedule and Results The University of Illinois at Springfield is hosting the Baymont Inn and Suites Classic for women's Basketball on Friday, November 21st and on Saturday, November 22nd.
Teams in the Classic include Avila University, Calumet College of St. Joseph's, Harris-Stowe State University, and the University of Illinois at Springfield. Games begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and will resume on Saturday, November 22nd, beginning at 2:00 p.m. -more- | 11/18/2008 -- M. Basketball Prairie Stars Edge Olivet Nazarene In Overtime, 70-69 (Kankakee, Ill.) - The Prairie Stars men's basketball team edged out the talented Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University in overtime to bring home a 70-69 non-conference victory. The win gives UIS a 4-0 overall record.
UIS began in traditional fashion, creating a two digit lead in the first eight minutes of play before the Tigers clawed their way back into the game. Olivet took a one point advantage into to the locker room at the half, up 35-34. -more- | 11/17/2008 -- M. Soccer Piotrowski, Rodriguez Lead AMC Men's Soccer Honors SPRINGFIELD, IL - Jakub Kuba Piotrowski (Harwood Heights, Ill.) and Frank Rodriguez (Springfield, Ill.) were presented with top honors by the coaches of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) with the release of the 2008 All-Conference awards. Over all, six Prairie Star student-athletes received athletic and academic awards for their performance during the season.
Piotrowski, a senior forward who led the conference with 18 goals this season, was named the AMC Player of the Year and was named First Team All-Conference. Over the course of the year, Piotrowski scored two goals in seven games and tallied either a goal or an assist in 14-of-16 matches. Twice this season, Piotrowski had two games where he scored two goals and had one assist for a season high (Sept. 7 vs. Missouri S&T and Oct. 22 vs. North Park University) and he was named the AMC Player of the Week three times. Over his two year career at UIS, the determined striker has scored 37 goals in 35 matches and charted 11 assists. -more- | 11/17/2008 -- Volleyball McColez, Cooper Named AMC First Team All-Conference SPRINGFIELD, IL - Three members of the Prairie Stars women's volleyball were named to the American Midwest Conference (AMC) All-Conference teams and a total of six student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Conference Team.
Senior Tori McColez (Quincy, Ill.) and junior Sarah Cooper (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) were named First Team All-Conference, and senior Ali Janezic (Lake Barrington, Ill.) was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Those three join teammates Kimberly Bartosiak, Rachel Pfundstein and Danille Simler on the 2008 AMC Academic All-Conference Team for maintaining an overall 3.0 or higher grade point average. -more- |
